Compression Stockings Can be an Attractive and Affordable Solution for Unsightly Veins

March 26, 2012 Gregory Leave a Comment

Can Compression Stockings Help with the Appearance of Ugly Veins?

Unless you are still in your teens and early twenties many of us have discovered that unsightly veins are unfortunately a natural but not a desirable aspect of advancing age.  Most of us have the human desire for sexy or at least good looking legs.

This often never ending quest has spawned an entire industry comprised of a vast number of medical and cosmetic specialists as well as manufacturers, all promising to be the holy grail to a pair of legs that could command a double take.

The harsh reality is that in excess of 20% of all Americans have to deal with varicose veins in more or less severe forms.  The numbers for people with spider veins, which are like the little ugly cousins and nephews of varicose veins, are estimated at over 30% of the adult population.

What you should do about unsightly veins is not always an easy decision.  Always make sure that you that your condition is evaluated by one or more highly trained and experienced specialists before you decide on any procedure or make any changes that could affect your health.  It also never hurts to get a second opinion.  Vein, vascular and dermatology specialists can determine reliably if your bluish looking and/or slightly bulging veins are just a cosmetic issue or if there is a more serious underlying medical condition.

How can Compression Stockings Improve the Cosmetic Appearance of Your Legs?

Before you decide to take any invasive measures you should be aware that these are in most cases irreversible.  In addition, such procedures may also not guarantee that more unsightly veins of similar nature will appear later on.  And finally you should know that there are also non-invasive ways to improve the cosmetic appearance of your legs.  One of them is wearing hosiery.

Any fashion conscious woman knows that a high quality pair of stockings, pantyhose or tights can give her legs a glamorous finished look that will complement whatever stylish skirt, dress or trendy shoes she is wearing.  Hosiery in endless color variations and with seemingly unlimited design patterns has the uncanny ability to magically conceal every flaw, ranging from birthmarks, freckles, scratches and visible veins to blotchy and pale looking skin.

Today’s highly fashionable compression stockings, compression leggings and support pantyhose can do the very same and give your legs (or leg veins to be exact) an extra boost that normal fashion hosiery cannot provide.  Compression stockings and support pantyhose give your legs a special treatment with their built-in graduated compression, assisting the leg veins in pushing the blood back up your legs to the heart and lungs.

Compression stockings can also push bulging varicose veins back into a more normal shape allowing still functional valves inside the veins to resume their work.  In addition, support pantyhose and compression stockings can also prevent or reduce swelling (edema) and provide significant relief from achy, tired and heavy feeling legs for individuals who have to stand or sit for long hours every day.

According to the government office for Women’s Health, the single most important step you can take to slow the development of new varicose veins is to wear graduated compression or support hosiery every day all day long until you go to sleep.
