After a close brush with death in 2010 when NASCAR driver Brian Vickers was diagnosed and hospitalized with blood clots in his legs and around his lungs he is now recovered and ready to return to full time racing.
One of the theories behind Brian Vickers blood clots was the fact that a race car driver is sitting immobile for many hours in his race car, which can put him at risk for blood clots to form.
Anybody who spends time sitting immobile on a plane, bus, train or car ride can be at risk in a similar way. To prevent blood clots in the legs one needs to get up and walk around every couple of hours at least.
Obviously this is not possible during a car race, therefore wearing compression stockings can also be helpful to prevent the formation of blood clots in the deeper veins.
