Many individuals with venous and circulation problems having to wear compression stockings hope nobody will notice what they are wearing.  Such embarrassing feelings can manifest themselves for a variety of reasons.

Women may consider themselves unattractive wearing support hosiery or they may even feel at a disadvantage competing with other women who do not have this issue.  Men in most cases feel they have to project a “strong” image and signs of any type of weakness must be covered up at all cost.  “Warriors don’t feel pain!” Who wants to wear “rubber socks? “  This was actually a common term used for support and compression stockings years ago. 

Nobody likes to admit that they benefit from compression or support stockings.  As with many things there are two possibilities – Acceptance or Denial.

However, worries about looking unattractive or being stuck wearing rubber socks are completely unfounded.  Today’s compression and support hose, including those of higher compression classifications, are highly fashionable and come in a wide range of colors.  They can easily be worn with shorts and/or skirts during the summer months to prevent trapped heat under clothing.  Compression hose, thigh-highs and knee-high socks are also available for men and they come in a variety of colors such as beige, tan, taupe, blue, black and grey shades.  If you have to wear specially made to order compression stockings with a seam even those are often available in a selection of colors.
