During a heroic rescue operation in 2010 after a mining accident compression stockings were instrumental in aiding Chilean Miners’ blood circulation and keeping them from passing out during their ascent from a depth of more than 2,000 feet to safety.
A UT Southwestern Medical Center scientist recommended compression stockings as one of the measures taken to prevent fainting during the rescue process and for boosting return blood circulation up the legs back to the heart and lungs.
