Child Gamers Are At Risk For Getting Blood Clots (DVT)

A major Great Britain news organization recently reported that a teenager developed a potentially life threatening blood clot after long hours of uninterrupted gaming in front of a television.

The boy (14) had to undergo medical treatment including a course of blood thinner medication to clear up the deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and to prevent further complications.

This recent happening was by far no isolated incident where a “marathon session” of a gamer has resulted in the development of a blood clot or even death.

Especially Korea has been making the headlines with sad news multiple times in recent years where numerous gamers have died in Internet cafes after many hours of intense gaming activities.  Several Asian countries are considering the gaming phenomenon an “urgent” public health matter.
