Effectiveness Of Support Stockings – Can They Prevent The Need For Compression Stockings Later?

Preventive care is everything.  Or is it inevitable to have the venous system in your legs deteriorate to a point where you will require the firm support of compression stockings?  Are there ways to help and maintain your body or in this case specifically your legs to prevent things going from not perfect, to not so great, to bad or worse?

Most of us are born with “built in” biological flaws, so-called genetic predispositions that are passed on with the imperfect genes of our ancestors.  These fruits from our family trees can eventually manifest themselves into more or less serious conditions or illnesses we have to manage and deal with as our bodies advance in age.

Support hosiery includes all the “light compression” versions of support socks, stockings or pantyhose.  These have the potential to alleviate or even prevent symptoms of heaviness, tiredness or achiness in your legs if they are worn regularly and consistently.

Support stockings hold the power to energize and revitalize your legs, especially if you spend much of your day sitting or standing for extended periods of time.  By giving your legs and venous system a daily boost of support by wearing support stockings or hose, you may be able to prevent or at least significantly slow down the occurrence of spider veins, varicose veins or other painful leg conditions.

To deliver the most effective support for your legs support hose is available in the following graduated compression ratings of up to 20 mmHg.

Support Stockings Compression Classes:

  • I          6-8 mmHg*)
  • II     10-12 mmHg
  • III    14-16 mmHg
  • IV    15-20 mmHg

All of these support stockings have compression levels that are considered mild or light.  When looking for support stockings or hose you may prefer considering those with graduated compression levels because decreasing compression between the ankle and thighs can more effectively boost blood circulation and assist the muscle pumping action in your calves.

All low grade compression stockings and pantyhose can be purchased over the counter in many drugstores or department stores and through various e-commerce sources over the Internet.

Effective support hosiery should be made with fibers of at least 70 Den**) weight or even better 140 Den for maximum support and durability.
