Serena Williams, the famed tennis star who to date has won more than 13 Grand Slam titles, is on the road to recovery after suffering a dangerous pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) last week.
The exact circumstances and potential cause(s) of the embolism seem difficult to pinpoint but doctors are monitoring her situation closely to avoid further complications. Serena was lucky to receive prompt medical attention for this perilous condition and is expected to make a full recovery. It has been said that she may even be able to return to the court as soon as later this summer.
A blood clot is a very serious and potentially life-threatening condition that often starts during periods of prolonged immobility, such as after operations or during long-distance traveling.
