Tennis Star Kirsten Flipkens Recovering From Blood Clots After Flight

Eight months ago Kirsten Flipkens could have been heading into a life threatening situation if she had ignored the excruciating pain in her calf muscles, which prompted her to seek medical attention.

Upon examination it was discovered that she had blood clots in both of her legs after a long distance flight to Thailand in April 2012.

After being “grounded” for two months due to the deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her legs, subsequently she also had to inject herself with blood thinners and wear compression stockings whenever she was flying longer than three hours.

Blood clots in the deeper veins of the legs as a result of long distance air travel are also commonly referred to as “Economy Class Syndrome or Coach Class Syndrome”.  For more information on this topic please read our post…
