RAF Veteran and UK’s first professor of Aerospace Medicine, David Gradwell, from King’s College in London is rousing the debate and adding new controversy to the discussion whether compression stockings or flight socks can prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) when traveling on airplanes for extended periods of time.

The veteran professor and expert pointed out that there is no evidence that that compression socks actually work.   At the same time, he also stated that other frequently “recommended” measures like taking aspirin are also not confirmed by scientific studies.

Professor Gradwell simply suggests that passengers should make sure that they keep themselves hydrated properly, perform leg exercises throughout the flight and move about in the cabin frequently.
