The Price You Could Pay For Not Wearing Compression Stockings When You Should

Whether it is for the reason of appearance or simply pride, people often try to hide the fact that they have to wear compression hosiery.  With knee-high type compression socks or stockings this is easy to do year round by wearing long pants over them.  However, what if you have to wear long compression stockings or compression pantyhose because your condition involves your entire leg(s)?

The summer months often bring blazing hot temperatures.  If you live in a hot climate your legs and venous system need the additional support from compression more than ever.  Long pants worn over compression hose can trap significant amounts of heat and may potentially cause additional health problems.  For many the answer is simply not wearing any compression stockings at all during the summer.  A seemingly convenient decision like this can have serious consequences later on by worsening existing venous and lymphatic conditions.

Physicians in states or regions where temperatures sizzle see the same picture year after year.  Patients come in for treatment of open sores and ulcers on their legs in the fall because they have not been wearing their compression stockings all summer long.  Compression stockings can only improve blood circulation and prevent or reduce swelling or ulcerations effectively if they are worn on a daily basis from the time you get up until you go to bed.

There is simply no choice because once veins have become enlarged and weakened they cannot go back to their normal size.  Only the persistent pressure applied by graduated compression hose keeps them at a close to normal diameter and functioning near normal.

  • I have healthy legs even in my seventies because I've been wearing compression pantyhose for nearly fifty years on a daily basis. They are a gift to not only women, but, men as well. I appreciate this website.
