Compression And Support Stockings Are Dreadful – Are They Really?

For many people the subject of compression stockings still brings to mind a vision of pinkish, skin colored, Granny type socks or hose made of heavy materials that scratch, pinch and feel like tightly wrapped insulation material.

As much as this description may have held true years ago let us take a look at what compression hosiery manufacturers have to offer today.  It must be said that today’s support hose or compression stockings are not your Grandmother’s stockings by any measure.

Since those dark days innovations have taken place, which led to the development of new and improved fibers for stockings.  In addition, modern knitting machines can literally knit circles around what used to be state of the art technology.

Consequently compression stockings have undergone quite a transformation.  Most of the compression and support stockings you will find today are made to look and feel more like high quality hosiery.  They not only come in a larger variety of colors but are also made of strong, yet soft and stretchy materials to ensure they can do the job of promoting healthier legs.

Fashion forward thinking manufacturers realize that discriminating health conscious customers like to enjoy the therapeutic effects of compression and support garments.  Nevertheless, they also demand that compression and support stockings must enhance and complement their looks and fashion choices at work and for play with attractive style and design choices.

  • I found this site while researching compression pantyhose and how to survive wearing them - especially during warm weather.

While there are plenty of choices for females (colors, styles, sheer, opaque, etc.) and there are plenty of tips for females staying cool (and stylish), there is a dearth of information or tips for men.

For men (me at least), they have to be black so they appear to be dress socks. I do not have a choice of wearing shorts or a skirt at work (not that I would in pantyhose), so I am stuck in long compression wear under long pants. I will be starting on them in the next week or two and am very disappointed in the lack of information out there for men.

I guess us men just have to suck it up and let heat stroke kill us.
