A recent European study consisting of randomized test subjects explored the potential benefits of compression hosiery for alleviating leg symptoms of individuals working in occupations that require extended periods of standing.
The study determined that graduated compression stockings of lower compression levels (e.g. 15-20 mmHg) can improve feelings of leg pain, swelling of the legs (leg edema), heaviness and many other discomforts experienced by people working in jobs where they have to stand for long hours.
