According to recent reports in The Times and some other publications, it has been concluded based on a large study of more than 2000 patients that those who were fitted with compression stockings after a stroke had no significant advantage with regard to the prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Nevertheless, compression stockings are still recommended for individuals who have had surgery or to prevent deep vein thrombosis during long-distance travel (such as long-distance flights).
