Can Tights Really Fight Cellulite?

May 11, 2012 Gregory 18 Comments

Cellulite has no preference when it comes to body types.  It can affect thin, average or larger individuals alike.  As a matter of fact women that are thin often have the worst cases of cellulite.  In general cellulite is much more prevalent in females and rarely seen in males.  Women from all walks of life are looking for effective solutions in the battle against the rippled orange peel look this dreaded condition creates on their thighs and bums.

It may or may not surprise you that even famous celebrities like Eva Longoria, Cameron Diaz or Elle McPherson have their little bags of tricks to keep cellulite at bay.

In the fight against beauty diminishing cellulite, the bright minds of scientists and engineers have been working on developing lotions, creams and garments to help women beat back this bumpy foe.  Innovative compression tights and pantyhose have been hailed as one of the promising solutions to help keep cellulite in check.

How can Compression Tights Help with Cellulite?

Besides the lower part of your stomach area and sometimes your arms, the gluteus maximus (butt) and inner thigh areas are among the favored places for cellulite to make itself at home.  To help these cellulite prone areas on your body, companies have developed a wide range of garments and hosiery designed to prevent cellulite or lessen the effects of its appearance.

One manufacturer of tights, stockings and pantyhose achieves the cellulite busting benefits with a patented scientifically tested 3-D wave knitting pattern.  This proven proprietary compression weave has been incorporated into anti-cellulite shorts, capris, leggings, tights and pantyhose.  In addition, micro-massaging action supported by graduated compression to boost blood circulation, as well as the body’s own movement is utilized to create a cellulite reducing effect.

A different line of anti-cellulite hosiery uses special fabric materials that are treated with bio crystals which warm up once they come in contact with skin.  Once these crystals have warmed up, they help to improve blood circulation and cell metabolism; thereby melting away fat and toxins which can then be removed by the body itself.   The ultimate benefit is a reduction of the effects of cellulite and improved skin condition.

Yet another company has developed an innovative way to embed microcapsules that cannot be seen with the naked eye directly into fabrics and fiber materials.  These capsules are loaded with ingredients and extracts that have anti-cellulite and slimming effects.  Among those ingredients are caffeine, seaweed extract, retinol and vitamin E, which contribute to the natural reduction and degradation of fat tissue, according to garment and hosiery manufacturers statements.

This microcapsule technology known under the registered trade name of Skintex® (Cognis Group) does not affect the look and feel of textiles.

According to the manufacturer, the ingredients are encased in a protective layer and are released and activated in two ways: 1) by the friction that the wearer of the garment or hosiery creates and 2) by a gradual removal of the protective layer around the capsules through the body’s own enzymes.

Do these Cellulite Tights, Leggings, Pants and Capris really Work?

When reading the product reviews of anti-cellulite garments, the opinions of the individuals who have tried these garments are as diverse and divided as voter’s opinions on candidates and their promises during an election year.

In our opinion, when it comes to body toning and shaping garments, you will likely have to try these different products yourself.  You can then decide which one(s) are the best fit for you and if they can really help you to reduce or eliminate cellulite in the most efficient way.

You may also want to explore other options in the battle against cellulite such as

  • Optimizing your diet (eat natural foods)
  • Keeping your body hydrated
  • Massages
  • Dry brushing techniques (over doing this one could cause a rash or skin irritation)
  • Increasing exercise (e.g. power walking)
  • Applying used coffee grounds to your skin (over doing this one could cause a rash)
